Feeding the birds in our gardens or anywhere for that matter, has become increasingly popular and essential over the last few years. By putting out a larger selection of bird foods we can encourage a greater variety of birds into the garden than ever before. I live in a typical suburban house with a garden at the back and see a great range of different birds including a greater spotted woodpecker who feeds on the peanuts, gold finches which feed on the niger seed and thousands of sparrows which feed on the wild bird seed. Sparrows are said to be in decline throughout UK but we seem to have thousands of them all living in one large mock orange bush. I have also spotted long tailed tits and nuthatches. This winter there have been numerous local sightings of waxwings, feeding on all the hawthorn berries which are in great abundance everywhere. In the shop we sell a variety of different bird foods plus bird feeders and bird tables. |
